Welcome to the download page for Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC). Here you will find free downloads for all of the MDAC releases. These downloads are redistributable according to the End User License Agreements posted with each release. Eight releases of MDAC are available here: MDAC 2.7, two of MDAC 2.6, three of MDAC 2.5, and two of MDAC 2.1. You can also find several release manifests. MDAC 2.6 SP1 (2.61.7326.6) is now available for download from this site. This release contains the same version of the MDAC components that are installed by SQL Server 2000 SP1 and a number of other Microsoft products. Read the MDAC 2.6 SP1 release details.

MDAC 2.6 Software Developers Kit is now available for download from this site. It contains updated documentation, headers, libs and typelibs, new and updated sample applications, and developer tools. Read the MDAC 2.6 SDK release details.

MDAC 2.6 RTM (2.60.6526.3) is now available for download from this site. This release contains the same version of the MDAC components that are installed by SQL Server 2000 and a number of other Microsoft products. Read the MDAC 2.6 release details.

Jet 4.0 Service Pack 3 is available if you are installing MDAC 2.6 and also need to install the Jet components. Read the Jet 4.0 SP 3 release details.

MDAC 2.5 SP2 (2.52.6019.2) is now available for download from this site. This Web release is the same version of MDAC that is installed by Windows® 2000 Service Pack 2. Read the MDAC 2.5 SP2 release details.

MDAC 2.5 SP1 (2.51.5303.5) is available for download from this site. This Web release is the same version of MDAC that is installed by Windows® 2000 Service Pack 1. Read the MDAC 2.5 SP1 release details.

MDAC 2.5 RTM (2.50.4403.12) is available for download from this site. An RTM release was previously called a (GA) release. This Web release is the same version of MDAC that is installed by Windows 2000. Read the MDAC 2.5 release details.

MDAC 2.1 SP2 is still available for download from this site. This Web release is the second Generally Available (GA) version of MDAC 2.1 and is referred to as MDAC 2.1.2.4202.3 (GA). MDAC 2.1.2.4202.3 (GA) addresses a number of issues from previous releases. Read the MDAC 2.1 release details.

In response to your questions about MDAC releases, release-specific issues, and upgrade considerations, the MDAC team has developed manifests for each release that discuss release-specific issues and details. Read the Manifest Introduction for an explanation about release conventions and manifest information. Also read the MDAC Installation FAQ. All releases of MDAC and the Data Access SDK will include a version-specific release manifest.

2.6 SP2 Refresh Release

Microsoft Data Access Components 2.6 SP2 Refresh (2.62.7400.1) Now Available

This Web site release is the second release of the Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.6 SP2. The first release of this product was with SQL Server 2000 SP2 and was versioned 2.62.7926.1, the second release is only available for web download and is versioned 2.62.7400.1, there are no functional differences between the two releases. Due to issues with clustering, this release is NOT supported on SQL 7.0 Clustered Servers or SQL 6.5 Clustered Servers.

MDAC 2.6 SP2 Refresh does not include Microsoft Jet, the Microsoft Jet OLE DB Provider, the Desktop Database Drivers ODBC Driver, or the Visual FoxPro ODBC driver. See Knowledge Base article Q271908 for more information.

2.7 RTM Refresh Release

Microsoft Data Access Components 2.7 RTM Refresh (2.70.9001.0) Now Available

This Web release is the Refresh release of Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.7 RTM. This download installs the same version of the MDAC components that are installed Windows XP. Due to issues with clustering, this release is currently NOT supported on SQL Server 7.0 Clustered Servers or SQL 6.5 Clustered Servers.

MDAC 2.7 RTM Refresh does not include Microsoft Jet, the Microsoft Jet OLE DB Provider, the Desktop Database Drivers ODBC Driver, or the Visual FoxPro ODBC driver. See Knowledge Base article Q271908 for more information.

This Web release is the first release of Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.6 SP1. This download installs the same version of the MDAC components that are installed by SQL Server 2000 SP1 and a number of other Microsoft products. There is no MDAC 2.6 SP1 version for Alpha machines. Alpha installations should continue using MDAC 2.1.2.4202.3 (GA). Due to issues with clustering, this release is currently NOT supported on SQL 7.0 Clustered Servers or SQL 6.5 Clustered Servers.

2.6 Software Development Kit

Microsoft Data Access Components 2.6 SDK Available

The Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.6 SDK is available for download. This SDK is useful to developers who are building applications using ADO, OLE DB, and ODBC. It contains updated documentation, headers, libs and typelibs, new and updated sample applications, and developer tools. The MDAC 2.6 SDK is designed for use with the MDAC 2.6 Redist (mdac_typ.exe), which is also available on this page.

The MDAC 2.6 SDK is supported on the following operating systems: Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Millennium (Windows Me), Windows NT 4.0, and Windows 2000. For specific Service Packs that may be required, see the Readme.txt file included with the SDK.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 is required to view the compiled HTML help (.chm) files. In addition, a recent version of the Microsoft Platform SDK is required to compile the OLE DB samples.

The MDAC 2.6 SDK is available in English only, but has been tested on the following international operating systems: German, Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, and Bi-Di.

Component Checker

The Component Checker tool is designed to help you determine installed version information and diagnose installation issues with the Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC). Component Checker runs on the following operating systems: Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

MDAC is installed with numerous Microsoft products and also can be redistributed using the redistribution program (mdac_typ.exe) accessible through the links on the rest of this page.

Component Checker is a customizable tool that performs the following tasks:

  • Identifies the current MDAC installation on a computer.
  • Creates a series of reports about the files identified for the current MDAC installation.
  • Removes the current MDAC installation after listing .dll conflicts and identifying programs that reference a given .dll.

2.1 Releases

Microsoft Data Access Components 2.1.2.4202.3 (GA) now Available

This Web release is the second generally available (GA) version of Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.1 and is referred to as MDAC 2.1.2.4202.3 (GA). The MDAC 2.1.2.4202.3 (GA) release is also referred to as MDAC 2.1 SP2 in Microsoft's Knowledge Base articles. The original MDAC 2.1 was shipped with SQL Sever 7.0, a small incremented version was then shipped with IE 5.0 (this was MDAC 2.1 without drivers or providers). The next MDAC 2.1.1.3711.11 (GA) was released to the web. Some articles may refer to this as MDAC 2.1 SP1. The most current release is 2.1.2.4202.3 and is the latest service pack to the MDAC 2.1 stack. There are no new features in this release. Please refer to the version number on the msado15.dll file which should match the above version number.

HOTFIX: Access ODBC Keyset Cursor Becomes Corrupt After a Delete
This hotfix addresses an issue in Microsoft Data Access Components versions 2.1 and 2.1 SP1. Details are available in Knowledge Base article Q230131. Please review the readme file included in the below self-extracting zip file before implementing this fix.

Data Access SDK 2.1 Update Available for x86 and Alpha
If you obtained the Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.1 from Microsoft SQL Server 6.5 SP5 or SQL Server 7.0, the The Data Access Software Development Kit (DA SDK) 2.1 Update is now available with updated headers, libraries, and documentation for building applications with MDAC 2.1. The DA SDK 2.1 Update is intended for use with the tools and samples provided in the Data Access SDK 2.0; MDAC component files must be installed separately. MDAC 2.1 is now available from this site (see above headline).

To upgrade your current DA SDK 2.0 installation with the 2.1 docs, headers, and libraries, download SDKUpd_i.exe (for x86 machines) or SDKUpd_a.exe (for Alpha machines) and install over your current files. The default installation directory is C:\Msdasdk, which can be customized.

Jet 4.0 Service Pack 3 Release

Microsoft Jet 4.0 SP3 Now Available

If you are installing MDAC 2.6 and also need to install the Jet components, you can download a redistributable version of Jet 4.0 Service Pack 3 (Jet40SP3_Comp.exe). Jet40SP3_Comp.exe is a complete set of Jet 4.0 components for Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, and Microsoft Windows NT version 4.0. Jet40SP3_Comp.exe gives you the complete Jet 4.0 components up to Service Pack 3 (SP3). This is the same version of Jet that ships with Microsoft Windows 2000 and Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me).

You should only install Jet40SP3_Comp.exe when Jet 4.0 is not already installed by your operating system, an application, or Microsoft Access Data Components (MDAC) 2.5 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or earlier. Before installing Jet40SP3_Comp.exe, you need to install MDAC 2.6 or later.

Custom Data Control for Visual Basic 5.0
The ISGData Control for ADO is an ActiveX control that gives data-aware controls access to ADO and OLEDB data sources in the same way a standard Microsoft data control gives access to ODBC data sources.
